We will drive in a few Minutes into that area ('Garmisch') with my old beetle to 'copy' some old pictures...I thought this pic here would be a perfect candidate as well but as this significant building no more longer exists there's 'something missing'...although change in general is considered as 'normal'...will publish the old/new beetle picture-pairs somewhere else then as this is not purpose of this site... ;-)

@Robert - you're very welcome! Ironically, today, at the place of that old house there's a pub called "Alt Mittenwald"... The old house had existed at least till 1965, there was a bookseller's shop / public library there...

Perfect...many thanks! My hope was the baroque gable would still exist...but...

The wonderful baroque gable in the background doesn't exist any more, noawadays there's Gasthof Stern. The "... Stüberl" has disappeared, too - now, it's a pizzeria. There are quite a lot of picture postcards showing the "Unterer Mark" / "Untermarkt".

Good point...checked it, 2 is true. If the lower sign is 'Garmisch-Partenkirchen' (what is is, 99% I guess...) there's a one digit distance in km (99%) on the sign. But Garmisch is 18km from Mittenwald (2 digits)...But there is not much choice, I guess Mittenwald is correct...hmm...;-)

There's a number over the sign pointing to the left - maybe a "2", indicating Bundesstraße 2. This would match Mittenwald....
